PC to AMIGA:

This utility allows you to connect a Windows 98se PC to an
Amiga using the parallel port and a standard 25-pin parallel
cable. If you use 98se, you can read and write directly to USB.

	---

Use Lharc on the PC (and LHA on the AMIGA) to decompress
PCtoAM308.lha

e.g.)

lha x PCtoAMI308.lha

x = extract.

On the PC, double-click on the file "PC2amcfg.exe", and
answer the questions.

I know for a fact that: Parallel, Laplink 4 wire, and the rest
as defaults -- works fine.

On the AMIGA, run the install program. Give it the same settings
as what you used for the PC.

Then, to start the conection...

On the PC:

Double-click on "PC2amiga.exe"

On the AMIGA:

Go to the HD0:Storage/dosdrivers directory, and double-click on
the icon called "PC" (not to be confused with the PC0 or PC1 icons).

You should see a new icon on the Workbench desktop, called
"PCDisk". Double-click on it, and choose:
Window --> View By --> Name
Window --> Show --> All Files.

You'll see all of the PC's devices... A: through ?:

You can now double-click on the C, to access the PC's C: drive.

Simply drag Amiga files to any of the PC directories in the
PCDisk window (or in the drive letter / subdirectories).

Note: the Amiga side of the software can be exited, and opened
again and again, while the PC side stays running. The software
will automatically re-establish a connection as soon as the
Amiga side is loaded up again.

Note: The parallel connection does not work through the LightWave dongle.

Tip: In order to preserve Amiga filenames that contain characters
     not allowed in DOS or for large batches of files, try LHA
     compressing directories or full disks into LHA files. Then
     transfer the LHA file across.

e.g.)
To compress all of the files and subdirectories in the libs directory
on the Amiga into a file called "Libs-bak.lha", placing it on the
drive HD0:, type:

lha -2 -r a HD0:Libs-bak.lha #?

Notes: Parallel mode only works in Windows 9x.
      For Windows 2000 and XP, use serial mode with a serial cable.

	Unlike the PC, the Amiga must be powered off when plugging or
	unplugging a parallel or serial cable. Otherwise, you run the
	risk of frying the port handlers (labeled 8520 CIA on the mo-bo).

	Use LHA for Windows or other compatible archiving utility on the
	PC side to manage LHA files.

	I'm pretty sure the DOS window needs to be active and not minimized
        in order to retain the connection. Hence its best to leave the DOS
	window for PC2Amiga up and then do the file copying on the Amiga
	side.

	If the Amiga version won't run, make sure the file "pc2am-handler" is
	in the L directory and that the "PC2AmParallel.device" file is in the
	Devs folder on the Amiga boot drive.

	When working on the Amiga side, make sure to select the following for
	the folders you're using:
	- Window -> Show -> All Files
	- Window -> View by -> Name
	You can force the window to remember its settings by choosing
	- Window -> Snapshot Window
